Volvo Car Corporation is a Swedish automobile manufacturer founded in 1927, in Gothenburg, Sweden. Although Volvo has been acquired and owned by various companies, the brand remains to be recognized as providing safe, dependable cars. Over the years, Volvo has produced SUVs, station wagons, sedans and compact coupes. To demonstrate changes in exterior, we thought it would be fun to share a couple of VERY old Volvo photos, and some new 2014 Models.

I had this opportunity presented to me by the Jenkins team in 2007 when I came in to purchase my first Volvo. I was a bit skeptical at first when it was suggested that I do this. However, when I looked into the details and had more talks with John I realized that this was a deal not to be passed by. So, my husband I went ahead and took advantage of a trip to Sweden. We received 2 open-end round trip tickets. We chose to arrive in Stockholm and fly out of Gothenburg. We enjoyed the private SAS lounge at the airport prior to our departure. There we feasted on chocolates, cheeses, fresh cold cuts, herring, fruit and pastries. Wines and top shelf liquors were also available. The night before we were to pick up the car at the factory we were treated to a stay in a 5 star hotel in Gothenburg. A limo picked us up and drove us to the factory where we had a guided tour. This was almost my favorite part, (aside from getting the car). After a lunch we completed the paperwork and were taken to the delivery room. We waited behind closed glass doors as our new “baby” was driven into the show room. The doors opened and we rushed to embrace the car we had ordered 3 mos. ago. We were guided through the workings of the car and when we had no more questions we drove off on a 17 day adventure through Sweden and Norway. Insurance during our driving tour was included in the overseas program as was delivery back to the states and to Jenkins Motors where we were reunited with our car 6 weeks later. Jenkins Service Department Treated Me like Family “My beloved Volvo S60X was perfectly serviced at Jenkins Volvo, and I was given a detailed report on every major area of the car, from tires to engine, to completely apprise me of the state of my car. The car had been running perfectly (I was there for scheduled maintenance), and I LOVED that no areas “requiring repair” were suddenly “discovered” — so I knew I could trust this dealership. THEN, Greg Jenkins, the owner, grabbed a special solvent and a rag, and he PERSONALLY took the time to wipe out some serious discoloration at the site of a door dent (caused by new driving trajectories in my apartment’s garage that caused my car to interact with a brick wall), so my car would look as good as it could until I get that dent repaired. They really treated me like family at Jenkins Volvo. Everyone there is not just an expert, but a nice, decent, fair, kind, and honest expert. I am happy to recommend this establishment. Buying a car isn’t just about the price

(CPO) Dealerships invest a considerable amount of time and money to create websites that are convenient, well-represented of their brand, and useful to the customer. A great deal of information can be found here, and don’t be afraid to test the dealerships ‘follow-through’ by submitting an inquiry. Read what others think of local dealerships, through online reviews in places such as Dealer.com, Cars.com and Google Maps.
Take a test drive. Once you’ve shopped around online, it’s time to get to know the car, and the dealership first-hand. When you visit the dealership, the salesman should greet you kindly without being to ‘pushy.’ Or, if you feel you’re getting ignored, that’s a good reason to find the door…quickly. Introduce yourself to the owner or general manager, visit the service department and even check the bathrooms for cleanliness. It’s not as silly as it sounds!
Bigger isn’t always better. Dealerships do so much ‘car-swapping’ with each other that high-volume dealers aren’t necessary to get the vehicle you desire. Most consumers will attest that smaller dealerships are more likely to ‘hustle for the sale,’ and provide much better customer service. Wisconsin Winters; Service for your Vehicle
The average snowfall in Wisconsin ranges from about 40 inches in the southern part of the state, to over 100 inches in the snow belt regions near Superior. This year, we got a late start but in Wisconsin, winter can last all the way up through April! It’s not too late to think about winter specific car maintenance and necessary service to ensure you’re not left out in the cold. Below are some winter car maintenance tips to consider:
- TIRES
“All-seaso
n” tires are not designed for winter driving, especially in colder states such as Wisconsin. They are generally are not made of cold weather rubber compounds, they lack channeling tread patterns and come with less tread stripes than winter or snow tires. Even with front-wheel-drive and anti-skid systems, “all-season” tires are not going to provide the performance that a snow tire can offer. As a matter of fact, the single component responsible with how a car performs in cold weather and/or on icy or snowy roads is the tire itself. If you are driving in very severe weather — especially if you have to be on the roads before the highway crews — it makes sense to spend more to get the higher-end snow tires. Lastly, don’t forget to have your tire pressure checked regularly, especially in cold weather conditions. Local service specials.
- BATTERIES
Winte
r puts more stress on your battery, particularly if you park your car outdoors. If you notice your headlights dimming, if it’s been 3-6 years since you got a new battery and especially if your car needs a jump-start, it may be time for a change. Repair shops don’t usually charge very much to load-test your battery, and some car-parts stores will do it for free. Don’t try to change the battery yourself; a battery can weigh as much as 40 lbs. and are often times very tricky to remove. There are electrical and chemical dangers associated with changing a batter, not to mention that the old battery will need to be disposed of properly. Obviously, you’
ll need to see the road to drive safely. The build-up of winter precipitation, dirt and salt on your windshield can greatly reduce visibility. Working windshield wipers and a solid supply of wiper fluid will ensure that you have a clear line of sight even in the nastiest snowstorm. Dedicated winter blades feature a rubber boot that prevents snow and sleet from jamming things up. Consumer Reports (CR) tested 15 wiper models, both silicone and rubber, and found that most did a very good to excellent job for the first 6 to 9 months but then performance fell off. Therefore, it’s best to replace your blades at least once per year. It’s not too late to have your wiper fluid reservoir topped off with a brand that has a lower freezing temperature. - OIL & ANTIFREEZE FLUIDS
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) developed a rating system for oil viscosity, which is often called weight. It’s expressed by four or five characters, such as 10W-30. The lower the number before the W (which stands for “winter”), the better the oil flows in cold temperatures. Therefore, your oil should be either multi-viscosity or 5W if you are in severe cold climate. Anti-freeze is designed to prevent summer boil-overs and winter freeze-ups. Waiting too long to remove coolant can harm your system and not perform the way you expect. Jenkins Helping Senior Citizens
Congratulations to Team Jenkins for taking home the first place trophy last month at the VMP Foundation Invitational. VMP, (previously known as Village Manor Park), hosts the golf invitational at the 
Wisconsin Club-Country Club in Milwaukee each year. Funds are raised in support and recognition of the importance of seniors maintaining active lifestyles. This year, proceeds went towards the “Senior Solutions Fund” which directly benefit programs which impact the quality of care available for seniors.
The owner of Jenkins Imports and several employees have participated in this event for many years. (June 2012 marked their 19th year!) The 2012 team consisted of Greg Jenkins, Scott Timmerman, Michael Jenkins and Gregory Jenkins. Gregory Jenkins stated, ” The best thing for us is the friendly competition; seeing the money being put to great use and seeing the improvements that are made each year.” Many other companies and sponsors from the Milwaukee area also participated. In the book, “Understanding the Increasing Affluence of Women,” Judith E. Nichols, Ph.D., CFRE says that in the majority of U.S. households, women bring in 1/2 or more of the income and control about 80 percent of household spending, including new car purchases. According to Michael Albano of GM’s global design group, “women’s influence in the automotive market has hit an all-time high, noting 85 percent of all vehicle sales decisions are influenced by women with women buying 45 percent of all vehicles.” (This information is based on car registration numbers only and does not reflect households where vehicles are shared.)
So what DO women want? Well, all the research shows that they are looking for EVEN MORE than the same things men want. For example, both want performance, package and design. However, the decision a women makes in a car purchase will have more to do with added bonuses such as more cargo space, safety features and ease of use for items such as car seats. They want great interior and exterior designs; paying special attention to trim, fabrics, compartments and color details. However, they won’t compromise these things for safety and efficiency.

The luxury segment in the U.S. market in 2012 is expected to be the fastest growing segment, with more than 14 percent growth, according to Polk. “More affluent buyers are returning to the market for new vehicles, after three years of spending reductions,” said Anthony Pratt, director of forecasting for the Americas at Polk. “The luxury segment also offers a wide variety of product options for consumers across all segments, ranging from small cars to SUVs.”
The definition as luxury has always been subjective. Most agree that “luxury is in the eye of the beholder.” Luxury choices are often highly emotional and most would admit that a luxury purchase seeks self-reward to satisfy a feeling of “I deserve.” But according to a new presentation based on Ipsos Mendelsohn survey data from September and October 2011, 65% of all affluents agree that “the definition of luxury today is not the same as it was five years ago.” 89% of the affluent say that when they decide to purchase a luxury item, they will go out of their way to find the best price possible because value plays a a larger role in today’s conception of luxury.

City Safety Feature
-City Safety is a feature that can help drivers avoid rear-end, low speed accidents that often happen in urban environments or slow moving traffic. Statistics reveal that 75 per cent of all reported collisions occur at low speeds of up to 30 km/h (18.7 mph). The Volvo system, called ‘City Safety’, is active up to 30 km/h and keeps a watchful eye on traffic up to six metres in front of the car with the help of an optical radar system integrated into the upper part of the windscreen. If a car in front suddenly brakes or is stationary, the system will automatically pre-charge the brakes to help the driver avoid an accident by slowing down in time, or steering away from a potential collision. However, if a collision is imminent, the system will activate the car’s brakes automatically.

Certified Pre-Owned at Jenkins Imports
You may have noticed that ”Certified Pre-Owned” or “CPO” has replaced the term ”used.” CPO originated due to the high rate of luxury off-lease vehicles populating the market in the recent past. Because these vehicles are in great shape and have lower mileage, they’re refurbished. Often times there are special financing plans and roadside assistance offered as well. Who buys pre-owned? Someone who wants a less-costly alternative to a new car. Who buys certified pre-owned? Someone who wants a low mileage, less-costly alternative knowing the vehicle has been thoroughly inspected and includes an extended warranty. Most CPO vehicles are less than five or six years old and in great shape, however they are not perfect. The added inspection and warranty provide a sense of security that you wouldn’t receive buying a “used” vehicle.
Not all CPO vehicles are created equal. Jaguar CPO vehicles must be less than five years old and have fewer than 60,000 miles. Compare to Mercedes-Benz CPO program of less than six years and fewer than 75,000 miles. Jaguar CPO vehicles warranty is 72months/100,000 miles while Mercedes-Benz is 12months/ 1oo,000 miles. (Which ever comes first.) BMW’s CPO program only covers 12months/ 50,000 miles and requires a warranty deductible of $50.
